“Believing, practicing, and proclaiming the historic faith”
BELIEVING
At the heart of our mission is believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Believing is not merely about doctrine–it’s trust in a living person. Our belief is not built on passing trends but grounded in “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). This believing shapes how we live each day, sustains us through every season, and unites us with God’s people across time and space.
PRACTICING
Our believing is not static or casual–it moves us to practice being “doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Our faith is marked by a growing devotion to Christ and to the ordinary means of grace he has given us to accomplish his mission: his Word, fellowship, the sacraments, and prayer (Acts 2:42). And from that center, our faith shapes all of life, as we seek to bring glory to God whether in the office, the classroom, or the home.
PROCLAIMING
We not only believe and practice–we are called to proclaim our faith to others. Jesus commanded, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). With clarity and joy, we share “the hope that is within us” (1 Peter 3:15)–beginning with our neighbor across the street and reaching to the ends of the earth.
THE HISTORIC FAITH
What we believe, practice, and proclaim is nothing new, but the historic faith “once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). In a world that urges us to “live your truth” and chases after every latest trend, this faith offers a firm foundation that cannot be shaken, no matter where the winds of culture blow. Rooted in the Old Testament promises of God and fulfilled in Christ, the early church confessed this faith in the great creeds. The Reformation clarified it in the Westminster Standards. And the Presbyterian Church in America was born to continue in this same tradition. This historic faith grounds us in Scripture, binds us to the church across the ages, and fixes our eyes on Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
“Disciples maturing in Christ together, bearing fruit in Vernon Hills, Lake County, and to the ends of the earth”
DISCIPLES MATURING IN CHRIST
A disciple is not merely one who knows about Jesus but one whose life is shaped by him. This has been God’s plan since the beginning of time, to form a people who reflect his glory (Genesis 1–2). This is a lifelong pursuit–a pressing on toward the goal (Philippians 3:14; Hebrews 12:1). Our aim is nothing less than maturity in Christ (Colossians 1:28).
TOGETHER
Discipleship was never meant to be a solo endeavor. We must “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24). We are all to use the gifts that God has given us for “building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12). Our growth in Christ is a communal calling, encouraging and supporting one another to persevere in the faith.
BEARING FRUIT
Jesus said, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples” (John 15:8). We long to see fruit displayed in our love for God and neighbor. We offer the whole of our lives–from the Lord’s Table to the office desk to the dinner table–as ”a living sacrifice” to God (Romans 12:1).
IN VERNON HILLS, LAKE COUNTY, AND TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH
From God’s promise to Abraham that “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3) to Christ’s command to ”make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), God’s vision has always been global and cosmic (Romans 8:20–21). For us, that begins right here in Vernon Hills as we gather for worship, grow as disciples, and live as salt and light. It spreads through planting and supporting churches and serving our neighbors across Lake County. And it extends to sending and supporting missionaries who carry the gospel to the ends of the earth.
We would love for you to worship with us on Sunday morning to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and fellowship together.
